A Semisto food forest
our story

The origins of Semisto

A search for meaning.

Semisto was born from the journey of its founder, Michael Hulet. As a child, he explored the forest, fascinated by nature, before being drawn into the digital world. Passionate about creating online, he became a developer and entrepreneur, founding several web ventures. But over time, he felt something was missing.

His travels to Haiti, Burundi and Kyrgyzstan opened him up to other realities. Later, he discovered permaculture and food forests. It was a revelation. He trained at the Bec Hellouin farm and with other experts, convinced that these resilient ecosystems are a solution for the future.

Semisto takes root

In 2021, Michael co-founded Les 4 Sources in Yvoir, Belgium, and decided to put his vision into practice there: turning Europe into a network of food forests. The first projects emerged. Semisto's founding document was written and shared in 2022, structuring these ideas to carry the movement at scale.

Les 4 Sources in Yvoir, Belgium
"semisto"

From the Esperanto word for "sower" — a name that became a movement.

The first trainings launched, the first large-scale projects took shape, the first interns joined the adventure. What if, together, we turned our landscapes into resilient, abundant, food-growing ecosystems?

Today, Semisto brings together enthusiasts, dreamers, builders — to grow a Europe woven with food forests, where every plot, every balcony, every public space becomes a source of abundance.

Semisto's story is just beginning. What if you were part of it?
